Congratulations to the 2023 Women’s Board Scholarship recipients!


Ella Gaffke

Junior Ella Gaffke is a Media Production and Communication major. Her goals after graduation are to work for a company in marketing or as their social media manager. She is also interested in one day starting her own business using the skills she learned at Olivet. Ella is a member of the Women’s Basketball team, Women’s Leadership Insitute and Christian Comet’s Connect. She loves reading a good book on a rainy day, spending time with family and friends and eating ice cream.



Lily Rozeveld

Junior Lily Rozeveld is a psychology major with a minor in criminal justice. She aspires to be a social worker within the juvenile justice system. Lily is a member of the track and field team, the Alpha Lambda Epsilon Greek Society, the Women’s Leadership Institute, Global Citizens Honor Program, and she works for campus safety. In Lily’s spare time, she enjoys going for walks, reading, and spending time with her loved ones.



Lilyanna Van Valkenburg

Senior Lilyanna VanValkenburg is a criminal justice major with a minor in psychology. Her career aspiration is to be an intelligence analyst for the FBI. Lilyanna said that the Women’s Board Scholarship has not only helped her financially, but it has also been helpful for her to know there’s a board of successful and encouraging women motivating her and her peers to be their very best.



Malaya Shireman

Junior Malaya Shireman is a biology major with a concentration in pre-med. Malaya is an out-of-state student, joining UOlivet from northeast Alabama. Her goals after graduation are to apply to medical school and go into orthopedics. She is a member of the softball team, APU Medical Honors Society, Sigma Zeta National Honors Society, and Sigma Beta Sorierty, where she is the vice president and treasurer. Outside of school, she enjoys reading and painting.



Spencer Murphy

Senior Spencer Murphy is a biology major with a pre-medical focus. After graduation, he plans on attending an accelerated BSN program to allow him to work in the ICU. After gaining experience in the ICU, Spencer intends to apply to CRNA school to start his dream job of being a nurse anesthetist. Spencer is the president of Gruen Chemistry Society, vice president of the APU Medical Honor Society, and a member of several other clubs on campus. Spencer was a Cutler Fellow and is a President’s Leadership Institute graduate. Outside the classroom, Spencer spends the rest of my time wrestling for The University of Olivet.



Sarah Cruz

Senior Sarah Cruz is a psychology major with a minor in social work. After graduation, she hopes to become a clinical social worker. Sarah is a member of the Marching Comets, wind ensemble, Global Citizens Honor Program, Psi Chi, Psych Club, and President’s Leadership Institute. She is also a student worker for the Health and Wellness Center. She has a strong passion for mental health and helping others. Sarah enjoys listening to and playing music as well as expressing her faith in her congregation, close friends and family.
