Tekonsha Community Schools students will now be automatically admitted to The University of Olivet, thanks to Olivet Direct!, a program that makes the admissions process faster and easier for qualified students. President Steven M. Corey, Ph.D., and Tekonsha Community Schools Superintendent and K-12 Principal JoEllen O’Keefe signed the Olivet Direct! agreement recently during a special presentation at Tekonsha High School.

The University of Olivet launched the Olivet Direct! Program in 2022 and partners with 18 school districts, community colleges and organizations. Direct admission allows high-achieving students to lock in their acceptance and financial aid awards without requiring them to go through the traditional admissions process.

“The University of Olivet is excited to welcome Tekonsha Community Schools as our newest Olivet Direct! school. Thanks to this partnership, more Tekonsha graduates will be able to attend The University of Olivet, benefit from our generous financial awards structure, and have a deeply immersive relationship-based education,” said President Corey. “Students can avoid the lengthy and often confusing admissions process and focus on successfully finishing their senior year. We cannot wait to welcome Tekonsha students to our campus and the UOlivet family.”

Further, Tekonsha Community Schools high school students may qualify for The University of Olivet ADVANTAGE Scholarship, which will cover the full cost of published tuition and general fees after all federal, state, and institutional grants and scholarships are applied. To qualify for free tuition, seniors must be eligible for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, be Pell-eligible and have been a Michigan resident for at least one year. The Olivet ADVANTAGE Scholarship aims to guarantee students, especially first-generation students and those from low-to-moderate-income families throughout Michigan, a quality, relationship-based college experience.

“Tekonsha Community Schools is thrilled to be partnering with The University of Olivet to provide this opportunity to our students.” said Superintendent O’Keefe. “Tekonsha has a long history of students attending Olivet, and we are excited that the Olivet Direct! program will continue that tradition and make higher education opportunities even more accessible for our students. Additionally, we are so grateful for the generosity of Harold and Jeanne Kemp to create a scholarship specifically for a Tekonsha graduate attending The University of Olivet. It is a full-circle moment for these Tekonsha alumni and UOlivet alumni to give back in a way that helps remove additional barriers for future Tekonsha students to pursue higher education at UOlivet.”
