Who to Contact

Students are required to call Campus Safety at 269-749-7911 first and immediately to report any of the following:

1. You have been been in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19; or
2. You experience any of the COVID-19 symptoms listed in the OC CARES Plan.

Employees are required to contact the Human Resources Department if they experience COVID-19 symptoms or come in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.

OC CARES Pandemic Response Plan

The University of Olivet CARES PLAN, developed by the college’s Pandemic Response Team (PRT), prioritizes the health and well-being of students and employees and is guided by the advice from medical and health associations and professionals. The plan that follows details the latest recommendations for the campus community establishing the necessary conditions for a residential campus experience in alignment with the public health guidelines developed by local, state, and federal sources including the Barry Eaton County Health Department, the State of Michigan, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The plan is a living document; it will continue to be revised as understanding of the virus deepens, best practices change, and medical measures become available. Changes made to this document will be announced to the college community and each member will be expected to remain apprised of these changes as they occur. The response team will continue to coordinate its response with the Barry Eaton County Health Department, the State of Michigan, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and will update this document as needed to reflect the most recent guidance from these local, state, and federal sources.

CARES Act Funding

(May 15, 2020) The University of Olivet applied for and received CARES Act funding from the U.S. Department of Education in the amount of $1,315,706. The College signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement, which states that the College intends to use no less than 50% of the funds received under Section 18004 (a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students. These funds have been provided to directly support students facing urgent needs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The College is using $657,853, or 50%, of the fund to provide an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students who have demonstrated additional needs in basic living expenses and technology due to the COVID-19 pandemic in accordance with federal guidelines for this funding.

Of the College’s total estimated number of students eligible to participate in the Federal student financial aid programs, 982, the OC CARES Grant was awarded to 874 students, totaling a distribution in the amount of $582,950.

• Students were awarded a baseline OC CARES Grant according to Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) as reported on the most recent FAFSA form using an initial awarding matrix, with students with an EFC of zero receiving the greatest amount of funds.
• Students were invited to submit an online OC CARES Grant application indicating additional needs in basic living expenses and technology and to add additional comments regarding their needs. A grants review committee reviewed student responses in which additional needs were identified and an awarding matrix determined.
• All students eligible for the CARES Act funding, defined as those students eligible for Federal Financial Aid (whether or not they accepted it), and who submitted a FAFSA form for the current year, received funding under the OC CARES Grant program.
