UOLIVET CARES

UOLIVET CARES provides health and safety updates and protocols for the The University of Olivet community, including COVID-19 related announcements.

COVID Guidelines for Fall 2022

The University of Olivet has disbanded its Pandemic Response Team (PRT) as of the conclusion of the 2021–22 academic year. A small team will continue to monitor COVID and meet as necessary, especially if there is a significant increase in case counts on campus or within our local community.

The University of Olivet will continue to follow the guidance of the Barry Eaton County Health Department, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. We encourage The University of Olivet students, staff and faculty to stay informed about COVID via their health care provider and other reputable sources.

Masking

  • Masking is optional in all public spaces.
  • Faculty/staff may require that a mask be worn in their instructional setting, classroom or private workspace.
  • You may choose to wear a mask at any time on campus. We want you to feel safe and welcome.
  • Free masks are available from the Health and Wellness Center, Mott 212.

Why Some Comets Choose to Wear a Mask

There are many reasons people choose to wear a mask, including but not limited to the following:

  • It’s a personal preference.
  • They are immunocompromised or at high risk for severe illness.
  • They live with or have social contact with someone at high risk for severe illness.

As a residential community and “family,” we are expected to respect anyone who chooses to wear a mask. Do not judge; be kind and understanding.

What to Do if You Test Positive for COVID

If you have COVID-19 symptoms or you test positive for COVID-19, do not go to class or work; report your status immediately to the appropriate contact below. You will be assisted in the next steps and required procedures.

Have a Plan of Action in Place

In recognition of our shared commitment to Individual and Social Responsibility, we must all do our part to maintain our health and support the health and well-being of all members of our
campus community. It is important to have a personal plan of action in place should you  contract COVID or any illness that requires you to miss class or work.

The following are some things to consider when making your plan of action:

  • If I am required to isolate, where will I stay? Will I need assistance securing a safe place to stay for the duration of my required isolation? Do I have transportation? Will I have access to food?
  • Do I have access to testing if a COVID test is required at any point? Where is the nearest test location?
  • If I am required to take my temperature at any time, do I have access to a thermometer and know how to use it?
  • When I am permitted to return to campus, I may be required to wear a mask for a certain time. Am I willing and able to wear a mask for the required time? Do I have masks available to me?
  • What professors do I need to notify of my absence? What steps can I take to keep on top of my coursework?
  • Will I have access to reliable internet and a laptop during my isolation period?
  • If I am a student employee, who do I need to notify of my absence?
  • If I require medical care, do I have a family doctor I can contact? Or, is there an urgent care or hospital close to where I will be staying?
Ask for Assistance

If you are a student concerned about your plan of action, don’t hesitate to contact the Health and Wellness Center for confidential assistance in creating your plan. Email health@uolivet.edu or call 269-749-7745 or 269-749-6678.
