In response to recent calls for the resignation of President Steven Corey, The University of Olivet affirms its unwavering support for the leadership and strategic vision that is guiding our institution into the future.
We recognize the deep emotional ties our community holds toward faculty members whose service and commitment have been meaningful in the lives of our students. We also acknowledge that transitions can be difficult, especially when they impact individuals and programs that are deeply valued.
These recent changes are not reactive—they are the result of years of strategic planning, community input, and careful deliberation. In May 2021, the University’s Board of Trustees unanimously approved the Olivet 2030: Vision for a Prosperous Future plan. This was a collaborative effort that engaged faculty, staff, and students across campus. As recently as June 13, 2025, our Board unanimously approved further academic realignments recommended by an academic-led Mission-Market Task Force of faculty, which was formed to ensure that our academic portfolio meets both mission alignment and market demand, and ensures our resources are directed where the students are.
These decisions were made with compassion and transparency, and we remain deeply grateful to those whose roles have changed. All affected individuals were supported with financial and benefit packages, and every student in a currently offered major will graduate in their chosen field.
Our mission remains clear: to preserve what makes The University of Olivet distinct while ensuring we continue to grow and innovate to meet student needs. Already, we are seeing the impact of our efforts with a projected increase in our freshman retention rate, large entering classes, and the launch of new academic programs that reflect the needs of a changing world.
The University is committed to continuing open dialogue. While we may not always agree on every action, we remain united in our dedication to student success, academic integrity, and the long-term health of our The University of Olivet and our community.
We thank our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and trustees for their continued engagement and support.
