Richard Lehman graduated from The University of Olivet in December 2012 and has worked at The University of Olivet since January 2013. Richard’s first position was in the Office of Admission, and then he transitioned to the recruitment specialist for the insurance program. While working closely with the high school insurance programs, he assisted with hiring two instructors who are still teaching high school students today. Richard also served as an adviser to multiple insurance students at The University of Olivet. Many of those students continue to keep in contact with him and he enjoys staying updated on their current experiences in the insurance industry. Richard’s drive to serve students on a larger scale led to a position in the Student Services Office where he worked with student accounts and statements. Richard also worked in conjunction with organizations such as MESP, MET, MI Tuition, TIP, Genesee Opportunity, Lansing Promise and Kalamazoo Promise to ensure the seamless transfer of funds to student accounts.
Next, Richard filled a need in Student Housing. This coincided with the COVID-19 pandemic, so the housing lottery was conducted online, which had never been done before. While working from home, Richard developed an equitable access system using an online program. This led to the seamless completion of student housing placements for that year. Today, Richard is responsible for awarding financial aid to students when they come to The University of Olivet. He conducts financial aid meetings with students and their families to help them understand federal rules and regulations. For student-athletes, these meetings are crucial to maintaining their NCAA eligibility.
Prior to The University of Olivet, Richard worked in the business sector. He supported multiple company branches that were at risk for closing by establishing goals and training the sales staff on how best to achieve them. His success at a branch in Southfield, Michigan, led to his position as vice president of banking sales with New Atlantis Financial. Richard enjoyed serving in this capacity, but he later moved back into sales for a company where he established new relationships and supported the sales growth in a new territory. Outside of work, Richard’s ongoing passion to serve has also fueled his desire to coach multiple sports for students ranging from elementary age through college. Richard enjoys supporting others and looks forward to continuing this work at The University of Olivet.
