Nicole Breckenridge serves as an assistant professor of health and human performance. Before teaching at The University of Olivet, Professor Breckenridge was the strength and conditioning coach for the university’s swim and dive team for many years. She loved the atmosphere at Olivet and decided to relocate from South Florida to her hometown in Michigan to continue her teaching career.
Professor Breckenridge earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science from The University of Tampa. She also holds two master’s degrees in exercise science and sports management from PennWest University. Professor Breckenridge is currently completing her doctorate in health and human performance at Concordia University – Chicago. Her research interests include sleep and risk of athletic injuries, recovery and athletic performance, and injury prevention.
Professor Breckenridge is a certified strength and conditioning coach (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). She is a certified personal trainer through the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA), a performance enhancement specialist, and a corrective exercise specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Additionally, she holds certifications from Precision Nutrition as a level 1 and 2 nutrition coach and sleep, stress, and resilience specialist. Professor Breckenridge is an active member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Prior to teaching, Professor Breckenridge worked in commercial fitness and owned a sports performance gym in Florida. She has over 22 years of experience as a certified personal trainer and strength and conditioning coach. Much of her coaching experience involved working with athletes of all ages. Her first professional athletic client was Shaquille O’Neal, but she has worked with many NFL and NHL players.
In her free time, Professor Breckenridge enjoys returning to Florida to visit family, friends, and relax at the beach.
