A Kansas native, Professor Nancy Van Hoozier, Ph.D., teaches courses within the sport psychology, exercise science, and sport recreation management majors. In addition, her teaching focuses on sports psychology and athletic administration, improving individual and team athletic performance, practical coursework in kinesiology, sport psychology, and sports and recreation administration.

Professor Van Hoozier earned her bachelor’s in health, physical education, and recreation with specializations in athletic training and coaching from Fort Hays State University; her master’s in physical education with an emphasis in sport psychology and kinesiology and recreation from the University of Kansas; and her doctorate in general psychology specializing in performance psychology from Grand Canyon University. Her dissertation examined the constructs and measurement of grit. Her other research interests centered around visualization, specifically on imagery and relaxation, and self-talk and mindset.

Professor Van Hoozier gained practical career experience in the field while coaching at the University of Kansas and The University of Olivet and serving in the college’s athletic administration as athletic director. Plus, she has served on several local and national committees as a faculty member, including the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships Sport Committee.

Professor Van Hoozier has mentored student research and presentations at the Character Education Conference on Sports, Character Education, and Service Learning, and the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Consortium. Recently, students have presented their research at the Michigan Academy of Sciences, Arts, and Letters, and the National American Society of Sociology of Sport (NASSS) conferences. Funding for some student and faculty research came through grants. In addition to supporting student research and presentations, Professor Van Hoozier has presented at regional and national conferences.
