Michael Mignano is an assistant professor in the Department of Health and Human Performance. His responsibilities include teaching in the areas of sport/recreation management, sport and exercise psychology, adapted sport/recreation, coaching, and sport sociology. Professor Mignano’s research interests include coach burn-out, trust in sport, coaching Generation Z, gender issues in sport management, and volunteerism in sport.
Professor Mignano has 10 years of experience coaching men’s and women’s golf at the collegiate level. He is a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) at Michigan State University studying kinesiology with an emphasis on the psychosocial aspects of sport and physical activity. Professor Mignano earned a master’s degree in kinesiology at Michigan State University and Master of Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in Marketing/Professional Golf Management from Ferris State University. He is a sport psychology consultant and works with athletes and teams at all levels on developing mental performance skills. Professor Mignano is also highly involved with the Special Olympics and has represented Team Michigan as head golf coach at the 2014 and 2022 USA Games.
Professor Mignano is a member of the Association for Applied Sport Psychology, North American Society for Sport Management, North American Society for Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity, North American Society for the Sociology of Sport, and United States Center for Coaching Excellence.
Professor Mignano joined The University of Olivet in 2022 and enjoys being a part of the community and collaborating with students.
