Professor Laura Barlond-Maas teaches English in classes designed for students across all majors, as well as courses designed for students majoring in English and writing. Whether an introductory literature course, advanced composition or children’s literature, Professor Barlond-Maas simply loves to teach. She brings energy and enthusiasm to the classroom that encourages all students to become interested in learning.
Professor Barlond-Maas has led a number of faculty development workshops at The University of Olivet, served as lead Faculty Marshal for more than 20 years and is an adviser to the ELITE Society. She directs several special projects for the provost, such as the Advanced Learning Term and the New Educator Orientation.
Professor Barlond-Maas has worked at The University of Olivet since 1988. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Olivet College and a master’s degree from Vermont College of Norwich University. She was re-elected to the office of mayor of the City of Olivet in 2017, after having been the mayor from 2001-05 and serving as a city councilwoman from 1997-2001.
