Evan Lewis currently serves as assistant director of bands at The University of Olivet, where he works with the wind ensemble, pep band and the Marching Comets. Previously, Lewis taught for 28 years in the Holt Public School system as a band director. In Holt, Lewis worked with all levels of concert band, jazz band, percussion ensemble, and the Holt Ram Marching Band. His bands consistently earned superior ratings at state festivals and performed at the Michigan Educators Music Conference.
Lewis earned both his bachelor of music education and his master’s of music education from Central Michigan University. Lewis is a former adjunct instructor at Lansing Community College (2007-2017), where he has conducted the percussion ensemble, led the percussion studio, and taught music appreciation classes. He has also served as an administrator for the Interlochen Fine Arts Camp (2013-2022), where he was both a division director and the coordinator of camp life.
Lewis has performed with the Lansing Symphony Orchestra, West Shore Symphony Orchestra (now the West Michigan Symphony Orchestra), Midland Symphony Orchestra, Jackson Symphony Orchestra, Lansing Concert Band, Alice Millar Brass Ensemble, and Sistrum women’s chorus of Lansing. He is an active member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA), serves the Greater Lansing community as a member of many outreach programs at Edgewood United Church, and serves on the board of the Lansing Area AIDS Network.
