Dennis A. Frank II '94, Ph.D.
Professor & Program Director, Counselor Education & Supervision
Dr. Dennis Frank has been a Counselor Educator & Supervisor for more than twenty years and is the Founding Director of the online Master of Arts in Counseling program at the University of Olivet in Michigan. Dr. Frank’s areas of expertise are in Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity; Multicultural Counseling; Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling Ethics; Psychodiagnosis; and Counselor Professional Development.
Dr. Frank, an alumnus of Olivet College, joined the University of Olivet in September 2022. Prior to that he was the Department Chair for Counselor Education & Supervision at an urban university where he taught and mentored more than 1000 Clinical Mental Health and School Counselors. Dr. Frank received his Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from the College of William & Mary in Virginia, and his Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Rollins College.
Dr. Frank frequently presents at the local, state, regional, national, and international levels, including in Montreal and Victoria Island Canada, Shanghai and Hong Kong China, and Verona, Rome, and Naples Italy, on topics related to counselor competence when working with a LGBTQ+ clients.
Dr. Frank is independently licensed as a professional counselor in the state of Virginia and has been facilitating an LGBTQ senior (65+ years) counseling group for more than a decade. Combined with his clinical experience as a Marriage and Family Therapist, he has worked as an addictions counselor, a crisis counselor, and a counselor in the adult and juvenile criminal justice incarceration systems.
Additionally with great pride, Dr. Frank is a founding member of Chicago HOPES for Kids, a 501c(3) not for profit education organization that provides academic tutoring and enrichment activities to children living in Chicago homeless shelters.
