Dr. Angela Breaker has served as the assistant professor of counseling and clinical placement coordinator at UOlivet since 2023. She is a nationally certified counselor, holds the approved clinical supervisor credential, and is certified as an American School Counselor Association school counseling leadership specialist and college admissions specialist. She currently serves on the Maryland School Counselor Association Executive Board
Dr. Breaker received her doctoral degree in counselor education and supervision and her master’s degree in school counseling from Capella University. Prior to completing these degrees, she obtained a bachelor’s degree in psychology from South Carolina State University. Dr. Breaker is a member of the Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic & Professional Honor Society International, Pi Gamma Mu International Honor Society for Social Sciences and Psi Chi National Honor Society.
After 10 years of practice, Dr. Breaker transitioned from her role as a full-time school counselor in the K-12 system to a full-time counselor educator. Dr. Breaker has also worked administratively in a mental health office, as an elementary classroom teacher and with a nonprofit agency serving urban, underserved youth.
Dr. Breaker is fluent in the school counselor supervision model developed by Luke and Bernard (2006) and continuously presents at international, regional and state conferences on these topics. Her research interests are focused on professional advocacy, professional identity across the helping professions and school counselor clinical supervision.
