Elizabeth Layton joined The University of Olivet in March 2023 as its first esports director and coach. Prior to Olivet, Coach Layton was the esports advisor and coordinator at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. She was responsible for all aspects of the program, which included researching and networking with other esports organizations, supervising students, planning practice and game schedules, coaching the team at competitions, and recruiting students. Coach Layton was the first female esports coordinator in Louisiana and is believed also to be the first female director of esports in Michigan.
An Alabama native, Coach Layton earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Montevallo and master’s degree in library and information studies from the University of Alabama. While at Nichols State, she served as the Access Services Librarian.
Coach Layton said, “I was drawn to Olivet because of the Compact and how the school genuinely supports inclusivity. I walked on campus and immediately felt at home and as one of the team. The people, community and students are so welcoming; it’s a pleasure to come to work every day.”
