Program offers direct admission to qualified students

Rudyard Area Schools students are now eligible for direct admission to The University of Olivet, thanks to Olivet Direct!, a program that makes the admissions process faster and easier for qualified students. President Steven M. Corey, Ph.D., and Rudyard High School Principal and Olivet graduate Chad Folkersma signed the Olivet Direct! agreement recently during a special presentation at The University of Olivet.

The University of Olivet launched the Olivet Direct! Program in 2022 and partners with 17 school districts, community colleges and organizations. Direct admission allows high-achieving students to lock in their acceptance and financial aid awards without requiring them to go through the traditional admissions process.

“The University of Olivet is thrilled to welcome Rudyard Area Schools as our newest Olivet Direct! school and our first partner from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Thanks to this partnership, an immersive, relationship-based education at The University of Olivet is available and affordable to students,” said Corey. “Students can avoid the lengthy and often confusing admissions process and focus on successfully finishing their senior year. We look forward to welcoming Rudyard students to our campus and the UOlivet family.”

Rudyard Area Schools high school students may also qualify for The University of Olivet ADVANTAGE Scholarship, which will cover the full cost of published tuition and general fees after all federal, state, and institutional grants and scholarships are applied. To qualify for free tuition, seniors must be eligible for the Michigan Achievement Scholarship, be Pell-eligible and have been a Michigan resident for at least one year. The Olivet ADVANTAGE Scholarship aims to guarantee students, especially first-generation students and those from low-to-moderate-income families throughout Michigan, a quality, relationship-based college experience.

“Rudyard Area Schools is proud to be an Olivet Direct! partner,” said Folkersma. “As a graduate of The University of Olivet, I’m excited to help make the connection for our students. We pride ourselves on relationship-based learning and instruction, which makes Olivet an easy transition for our students.”
