The University of Olivet is proud to present the third annual OC ATHENA International Middle and High School Leadership Camps this July. The camps, which will be held virtually to ensure the health and safety of all, are designed to help inspire young women to realize their potential as responsible leaders. Registration is open now through Sunday, June 28, at https://apply.olivetcollege.edu/portal/ocathenacamps. Space is limited.
“This camp is an extraordinary experience for the girls that attend,” said rising junior Delaney Peters. “I have been both a camper and a counselor in this program, and it is amazing to see how these leadership principles inspire campers. It’s like a lightbulb goes off for them, and I love seeing that moment when they realize their potential the same way I did when I was a camper.”
The high school camp is open to all rising 9-12th grade students and spring 2020 high school graduates who identify as a woman, taking place on July 7, 9, 14, 16 and 21. The middle school camp is open to all rising 6-8th students who identify as a women, scheduled for July 21, 23, 28, 30 and Aug. 4. All sessions will occur from 1-3:30 p.m. each day. The virtual format requires a computer or tablet, Internet access and the use of Zoom, including a web cam and microphone. The camp fee of $45 includes a camp T-shirt, materials for activities and age appropriate leadership training. Scholarships are available.
In addition to developing leadership skills, the camp also aims to serve as a positive light for young women during a challenging time. “We understand that students have had many changes this year, and we want to provide an opportunity for them to learn, build confidence and advocate for themselves and others,” said Jamilia Johnson, Women’s Leadership Institute coordinator and recruiter.
These transformative camps will build girls’ unique attributes and traits by focusing on leadership skills, confidence, communication and relationship skills. Participants will learn how to advocate for themselves and others, as well as find their courage to lead, build self-confidence, learn how to express themselves to lead positive change and stand in their own voices by discovering their true authentic selves. Lessons will be paired with fun activities, games and break time.
These skills will be taught by strong female leaders and “Ment-Hers,” graduates of the The University of Olivet ATHENA International Women’s Leadership Program, under the direction of the Women’s Leadership Institute director and advisory council.
Engaging sessions will focus on the acclaimed ATHENA Leadership model, developed by ATHENA International and used around the world. ATHENA International is a well-recognized successful non-profit organization founded in Lansing, Michigan that seeks to support, develop and honor women leaders through programs that are administered in partnership with host organizations.
In addition, the camps will also cover topics on life lessons in mental health, inclusion and diversity and the college admissions process.
