How to Become a Teacher in Alabama (Alternative Route)

The traditional route to becoming a teacher includes attending a university education program, but we understand that approach may not work for every learner. The University of Olivet offers an alternative route in partnership with #TEACH. Through this Teaching Pathway, we give you all the coursework needed and help guide you through additional requirements. Once you complete the program, you’ll receive a Provisional Certificate in a Teaching Field (PCTF), a temporary certificate that allows you to lead a classroom and gain real-world experience.

You’ll be able to work full-time in your chosen field, gaining real-world teaching experience. Meanwhile, you can work through the remaining Alabama teacher certification requirements to achieve your Class B Professional Educator Certificate. With this certificate, you can build a lasting teaching career in Alabama, knowing your license is fully renewable.
