Whether you’re drawn to Charleston’s vibrant educational community or districts elsewhere, our program provides the foundation to launch a meaningful teaching career in the state.
Traditional degrees are far from the only path to becoming a certified teacher. Through our Teachers of Tomorrow partnership, you can pursue South Carolina teacher certification while balancing life’s responsibilities. This state-approved route offers key advantages:
The University of Olivet simplifies teacher certification requirements into clear and manageable steps. First, you’ll complete our online application. You must work toward a Bachelor’s degree and meet a minimum GPA requirement of 2.5 or higher in your major or in your last 60 credit hours to qualify.
Once accepted, you’ll engage with online training modules covering pedagogical theory and practical classroom applications. These courses prepare you for certification exams required by the South Carolina Department of Education.
After passing your exams, you become eligible for a temporary teaching credential that allows you to begin working in a classroom while earning a teacher’s salary. Upon successful completion of your first teaching year and program requirements, you’ll qualify for your professional teaching certificate recognized throughout the state.
The University of Olivet’s partner, Teachers of Tomorrow, is approved by the South Carolina Department of Education, ensuring your certification meets all standards and is recognized by school districts across the state. We understand that career changers face unique challenges, which is why our support system includes experienced advisors who can answer questions.
