Enrolling for Fall 2026 – classes start August 24

The University of Olivet’s online Master of Arts in School Counseling program has been approved by the Arizona Department of Education. This approval marks an important milestone for the growing graduate program and expanding opportunities for aspiring K-12 school counselors across the country.

While The University of Olivet is based in Michigan, Arizona’s approval reflects the evolving landscape of educator preparation and online learning. Approval by the Arizona Department of Education means graduates of Olivet’s online School Counseling program meet Arizona’s educational requirements for School Counselor certification. Students outside Michigan should always verify certification requirements in their own state, but Arizona approval expands opportunities for graduates interested in serving schools across the country.

“This approval demonstrates the strength and quality of our program,” said Dennis Frank, Ph.D.,  professor and program director. “Our mission is to prepare compassionate, highly skilled counselors who are ready to support students academically, socially and emotionally in today’s schools. Arizona’s approval validates the work our faculty and staff have invested in building a rigorous, student-centered online program.”

Designed for Working Professionals

Designed for working professionals and students seeking flexibility, Olivet’s online Master of Arts in School Counseling combines practical training with a relationship-focused approach to education. Students develop counseling, leadership and advocacy skills while learning how to support diverse student populations in K-12 settings.

The program emphasizes:

  • 100% online coursework
  • Student-centered counseling practices
  • Ethical and professional preparation
  • Academic, career and social-emotional counseling
  • Supervised field experiences
  • Flexible scheduling for working adults

“As schools across the country continue to face increasing student mental health and wellness needs, demand for qualified school counselors remains strong. Olivet’s program is designed to help graduates meet those needs while making a meaningful impact in the lives of students and families,” said Angela Breaker, Ph.D., assistant professor of counseling and clinical placement coordinator.
