What is your role with the college?

I proudly serve as the director of academic accommodations and student support. In my role, I advise, coach, and mentor numerous students throughout their academic journeys at Olivet. Further, I hire, train, and supervise multiple student employees (e.g., Peer Tutors) to provide intentional student supports for all students. I also serve as an adjunct instructor and am passionate about learning with students inside and outside the classroom. I love my role because I can build authentic relationships with students and be an advocate/guide for students with disabilities, disorders, and/or impairments.

What are the most exciting parts of your role?

Each day brings new challenges, and no two days are the same for my role. Also, my role allows me to connect with students and serve as a mentor to others. I am grateful so many students consistently visit my office to check-in or to ask for assistance, and I hope I can positively influence and assist all students who reach out or stop by. Finally, the most exciting part of my role is watching students I have supported graduate from Olivet and enter the workplace sufficiently prepared to thrive as professionals.

What “words of wisdom” have you lived by that students can learn from?

These are the words of wisdom I try to share with all students:

  1. Control what you can, and do not let what you cannot control you.
  2. Think before you react.
  3. You do not know another person’s lived experience, so always be kind and considerate.
  4. Be authentically you. Always.
  5. Surround yourself with people who truly want you to succeed.
  6. Take the time to get to know yourself. It is okay to not know who you are yet.
  7. Choose a major that you are passionate about, and your future self will be thankful.
  8. Money may be nice, but happiness and a great work-life balance will matter more.
What is an interesting or little-known fact about yourself?

I was a stand-up comedian for nearly two years; I played two sports in college, and I have attended approximately 70 concerts so far.
