The University of Olivet is home to renowned music ensembles, talented vocal groups and many extraordinary art students thanks to robust academic offerings and extracurricular opportunities. To showcase the talent of these incredible students, special performances, concerts and art exhibits are scheduled every semester. Be sure to check out the following upcoming art events in November and December.

“Album Cover Art: A Window On World Cultures and Art History,” Curated by Douglas P. Sjoquist
On display through Nov. 29
Kresge Foundation Art Gallery
The exhibit consists of nearly 100 framed album covers, more than 50 framed information pieces and five large framed posters of artwork. The exhibit has three distinctive sections: The Golden Age of Album Cover Art, A Window on World Cultures and A Window on Art History.

Gospel Choir Performance at the Lansing Silver Bells in the City Celebration
Nov. 16
5:30-6 p.m.
Michigan State Capitol Building
The entire city will glow with thousands of lights for the Silver Bells in the City celebration, bringing together family and friends to kick-off the holiday season. The Gospel Choir will take part in the action by performing carols like “We Wish You a Merry Christmas” and “Carol of the Bells.”

Jazz Ensemble Concert
Nov. 19
7 p.m.
Olivet Congregational Church
The Jazz Ensemble will perform music that incorporates jazz styles throughout the history of jazz, including big band, bebop, Latin, vocal and fusion jazz. The band will feature pieces composed by Duke Ellington, Miles Davis and Ray Charles. Among other pieces, the band will perform include “Stella by Starlight,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)” and “Hallelujah, I Love Her So.”

Marching Comets Performance in the Marshall Holiday Parade
Nov. 26
7 p.m.
Downtown Marshall
The Marching Comets will perform during Marshall’s annual holiday parade along Michigan Avenue. Downtown will be filled with spectators as floats, bands, fire trucks and more parade the street from Brooks Fountain to Exchange Street.

Wind Ensemble Concert
Nov. 29
7 p.m.
Olivet Congregational Church
The Wind Ensemble will perform an end of semester concert showcasing music of the fall. It will be a relaxing evening filled with encouraging tones to bring the semester to a close.

College Choir Concert
Dec. 2
4 p.m.
Olivet Congregational Church
This concert will feature the The University of Olivet Women’s Chorale, Chamber Singers, soloists and the West Michigan Community Chorale Choral Ensemble under the direction of Les Rowsey ’77.

Chamber Singers Performance in Marshall
Dec. 5
7 p.m.
Schuler’s Restaurant and Pub
The public is welcome to purchase a meal at Schuler’s and listen to the beautiful sounds of the Chamber Singers.

The University of Olivet Regional High School Student Art Exhibition
Entries Accepted Nov. 27 to Dec. 4
Awards Reception Dec 7, 5:30-7:30 p.m.
Exhibit on Display Dec. 7 to 21
Kresge Foundation Art Gallery
The University of Olivet Regional High School Student Art Exhibition welcomes juniors and seniors to submit 2D, 3D and graphic design artwork. Winners will be announced at the reception and honored with The University of Olivet talent scholarships.
