The University of Olivet is pleased to observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day with two virtual events, a talent show featuring many outstanding alumni and an interactive video presentation by Lydia R. (Allen) Brennan ’98.
Virtual MLK Talent Show
The Virtual MLK Talent Show will debut live on Monday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. via the The University of Olivet YouTube channel and the Office of Alumni Engagement Facebook page. Many talented singers, musicians, dancers, poets and other alumni will be featured in this special video presentation.
MLK Program
On Wednesday, Jan. 20, Lydia R. (Allen) Brennan ’98 will present “Driving Change Through Action: Four Steps for Effective Advocacy.” The event will begin with a prerecorded message for the campus community, followed by a live Zoom question and answer session with Brennan at 3 p.m.
Brennan currently serves as a legislative aide for a councilman in Harford County, Maryland. She is responsible for overseeing district initiatives, maintaining positive community relations and office management. Prior to this position, Brennan was the president of the Allen Brennan Group (ABG), a government affairs consulting company specializing in legislative affairs management, identifying and securing tax savings and reputation management for businesses. The ABG also provided consulting services to political candidates, including the development of campaign strategy, speech writing and image consultation.
Prior to founding the ABG, Brennan worked as a government affairs manager for Visteon Corporation, a global automotive supply company, where she managed government affairs at the local, state and federal levels. She also served as a legislative aide in the Michigan House of Representatives for two state representatives.
Brennan received a bachelor’s degree in communications from The University of Olivet, with a minor in psychology. In 2005, she was a fellow in the Michigan State University Institute of Public Policy and Research Political Leadership Program (MPLP), which is a multi-partisan program that brings together a diverse group of select individuals to engage in public policy and leadership curriculum.
Brennan resides in Maryland with her husband of 14 years, Dr. John K. Brennan, and their three children.
