The fifth annual Medieval and Renaissance Consortium will be held at The University of Olivet April 5, 2014. The event is free and open to the public.

Kirk Hendershott-Kraetzer, Ph.D., professor of humanities at The University of Olivet, will host this year’s event. He has been involved with the consortium since its conception five years ago.

“The purpose of the consortium is to bring together talented undergraduates from colleges around Michigan to share their research” said Hendershott-Kraetzer. “Many of the students who present at the consortium are considering graduate school, and, oftentimes have already been accepted at programs around the country.”

The consortium is interdisciplinary in approach, and Hendershott-Kraetzer worked with colleagues in a variety of departments at Olivet to encourage their students to submit paper and panel proposals this year. In response, students’ presentations include representation from English, the sciences, music and sports, to name a few disciplines.

Undergraduate students from all liberal arts colleges and universities in Michigan were invited to submit abstracts. Institutions participating in this year’s event include: Adrian, Albion, Alma, Calvin, Hope, Kalamazoo, Olivet and Saint Mary?s colleges as well as Grand Valley State, Michigan State, Wayne State and Western Michigan universities.

This year’s Medieval and Renaissance Consortium begins with welcoming comments at 8:45 a.m., with sessions at 9 a.m., 10:40 a.m., and 1:20 p.m. Each presentation is between 15 to 20 minutes long, and there are 22 presentations on the schedule.
