Craig Bailey ’01, M.D.

The University of Olivet will commemorate its 172nd year by celebrating Founders’ Day Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 1:30 p.m. in Mott Auditorium.

This year’s program features The University of Olivet President Steven M. Corey, Ph.D., and keynote speaker Craig Bailey, M.D., president of the Bailey Medical Group P.C., and 2001 Olivet alumnus. A wreath laying ceremony in the College Square will immediately follow the program, which will continue with a reception in the Kirk Center with cookies and hot chocolate. All events are free and open to the public.

A resident of Bloomfield Hills, Bailey earned a Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University in 2008. He received a bachelor’s degree in biology from The University of Olivet, having also played for the Comet football team, serving in the Student Government Association, and being a member of the Elite society.

Receiving his medical education and training in Detroit, Bailey has always been committed to providing knowledgeable and compassionate primary care to the city that offered so much to him. He has owned and operated a private practice, Bailey Medical Group P.C., since 2013 and is currently one of the youngest primary care physicians in the Detroit area.

Olivet was founded in 1844 by Congregational missionaries led by “Father” John J. Shipherd and was one of the first colleges in the United States to admit women and people of color. In 1859, a state charter was granted, and in 1863, Olivet graduated its first class, which consisted solely of three women.
