The University of Olivet financial planning students get VIP access to one of the RIA industry’s biggest networking and education events

It’s one thing to sit in a classroom studying financial planning, but what if undergraduates had the chance to spend three days networking with thousands of registered investment advisors while also learning from some the financial services industry’s leading thinkers?

Fifty-two financial planning students from 25 colleges and universities had just that opportunity last week when they came to TD Ameritrade Institutional’s1 annual advisor conference, the 2016 National LINC, to connect with peers and explore job opportunities. Among this group were two students from The University of Olivet, Blane Heisler and Allison Kirk, both juniors from Charlotte.

As part of a long commitment to cultivate the next generation of advisors, TD Ameritrade Institutional since 2010 has invited students from colleges and universities to attend its annual RIA conference, a valuable opportunity to connect with peers, network with some of the country’s top investment advisors and learn about the latest trends alongside 3,200 advisors and other industry professionals.

Including this latest conference, TD Ameritrade Institutional has engaged with more than 150 students through its conference program over the past seven years.

In addition to attending inspiring sessions by former Director of the CIA Michael Hayden and Olympic swimming legend Dara Torres, students at National LINC participated in breakout sessions, panel discussions and networking events with advisors.

The student program is just one part of a broader commitment by TD Ameritrade Institutional to help attract and train young professionals to the financial planning business.

The University of Olivet’s financial planning major prepares students for careers helping others plan for their financial security. As part of the program, students gain practical experience preparing and presenting a financial plan, as well as preparing for the life and health insurance agents’ licensing examination administered by the state of Michigan.
