The University of Olivet’s Student Government Association (SGA) is set to host its second annual Leadership Conference Saturday, March 29. The conference’s registration takes place from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Mott Academic Center, with the event running until 4:30 p.m.
The keynote speaker is Senator Rick Jones, who will deliver his speech during the welcome ceremony. The conference will also include leadership workshops with The University of Olivet President Steven M. Corey, Ph.D.; Dr. Christine Beardsley, superintendent of Eaton Regional Education Service Agency; The University of Olivet trustee and alumnus Dave Labrecque; Norman Christopher, Grand Valley State University’s director of sustainability; and The University of Olivet faculty and staff members.
This year’s conference will focus on student self-improvement and professional preparation, according to SGA President Branden Dyer, a senior from Charlotte.
“Students will find a lot of helpful workshops that focus on leadership skills in the classroom and in their future careers,” said Dyer, who is expecting at least 100 individuals at the event.
The conference is open to colleges and universities across the mid-Michigan area, and is free to all attendees. Lunch is provided by the college. There will be five different break-out sessions for students to attend, each lasting an hour.
