The University of Olivet is proud to announce its designation as a 2022-23 Gold-Level Military Friendly® School by Viqtory Media. The College is ranked in the category of private schools not offering a doctorate degree. Military Friendly® serves as a standard to measure an organization’s commitment, effort and success in creating sustainable and meaningful benefits for the military community. The Military Friendly® School list is specifically designed to equip veterans, dependents, active duty and other military personnel with the ability to easily and efficiently navigate their educational opportunities.
Over 1,800 schools nationwide participated in the 2022-23 survey, and The University of Olivet was one of just 282 schools that earned the “gold” award status based on leading practices, outcomes and effective programs. Institutions competed for the elite Military Friendly® School title by completing a survey of more than 100 questions covering 10 categories, including military support on campus, graduation and employment outcomes, and military spouse policies. Survey responses were scored against benchmarks across these key indicators of success. The 2022-23 Military Friendly® Schools list will be published in the May issue of “G.I. Jobs” magazine and can be found at www.militaryfriendly.com.
The Military Friendly® Schools designation is awarded to the top colleges, universities, community colleges and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students and dedicate resources to ensure their success both in the classroom and after graduation. The methodology used for making the Military Friendly® Schools list has changed the student-veteran landscape to one much more transparent and has played a significant role in capturing and advancing best practices to support military students across the country.
“We are very proud to have The University of Olivet recognized among the top schools in the nation by Military Friendly®. Through the support of faculty and staff, we know the value student-veterans bring to The University of Olivet. We are dedicated to providing continued resources to build advocacy and understanding for our student-veterans,” said Leslie Sullivan, registrar and VA certifying official. “We sincerely thank these brave men and women for their service in the Armed Forces, and now we are grateful to serve them in their educational endeavors.”
The University of Olivet Commitment to Student-Veterans
The University of Olivet recognizes and honors the sacrifices that U.S. service members make in the defense of our nation. The College is dedicated to assisting veterans, guardsmen, reservists and others receiving U.S. military benefits in making a successful transition to the college community. The University of Olivet Veteran Scholarship for veterans, active military members and their families equals 50% of tuition costs. In addition, the student services office assists veterans, active-duty military students and dependents of veterans with certification, registration and financial aid. Further, the campus is home to a support organization for veteran and active duty students and their families.
“The University of Olivet offers a military scholarship to active military members/veterans. They also have faculty assigned to be able to answer any military-related questions students have, such as questions about your G.I. Bill or scholarships,” said Sophomore Aaron Garcia, a member of the United States Marine Corp Reserve. “I am the current acting president of the Veteran’s Advocate Club that helps with military family fundraisers, volunteers at VA hospitals, and just anything and everything we can do to help. I have also had the honor of speaking in front of most of the students and faculty on campus for a Veterans Day panel last November talking about my service and answer any questions people had.”
