The University of Olivet is planning a week-long service trip to Little Ferry, NJ, to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy. A group of 16 students and two employees will depart campus Saturday, Dec. 7 following the college’s final exams and will return Friday, Dec. 13. The University of Olivet President Steven M. Corey, Ph.D., will also attend a portion of the trip.

For the past nine years, The University of Olivet students have given up part of their holiday break to serve in areas along the gulf coast still damaged from Hurricane Katrina. The college decided to focus its service efforts this year on devastated areas of the Jersey Shore, following Hurricane Sandy in October 2012.

While in New Jersey, students will work with Rebuilding Together and Habitat for Humanity to repair severely damaged areas of Bergen County. The college was awarded a grant from Mission and Outreach Council of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches to fund the trip.

Students participating include: Jake Ceslick, a senior from Alpena; James Collins, a sophomore from Lowell; Sarah Crittenden, a sophomore from Metamora; Samantha Daily, a senior from Marshall; Jessica Doster, a sophomore from Three Rivers; Cameron Eldridge, a junior from Nashville; Casey Eldridge, a sophomore from Nashville; Chris Eldridge, a junior from Nashville; Olivia Horgrow, a junior from Ypsilanti; Carrie Jacob, a senior from Albion; Brittnee Johnson, a sophomore from Ann Arbor; Josh Kofflin, a senior from Milan; Andrew Simms, a junior from Lyons; Chris Staab, a senior from Marshall; Megan VanderVlucht, a senior from McBain; and Hailey Willett, a sophomore from Leslie.
