Remote learning is extended for the remainder of the semester, through the end of final exams April 25. While we would have preferred to return to campus, rapidly changing developments in the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) within the state of Michigan necessitate this decision. This is in the best interest of the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and Olivet community.
The College recognizes this is an unprecedented decision. Our relationship-based learning experience is at the core of a The University of Olivet education. The words family and home are often used by students, faculty, staff and alumni when they describe what The University of Olivet means to them. While these extraordinary times require extraordinary measures, we are confident that the The University of Olivet family will work together and support one another while we face this challenge.
We understand that the decision to complete the semester remotely raises many questions. Thank you for your patience and for understanding that our primary focus at this time remains a smooth transition to total remote learning. We want that to be your primary focus too.
Intensive Learning Term (ILT)
Discussion regarding the ILT is ongoing. Students enrolled in ILT should watch for emails from Provost Maria Davis, Ph.D., and their ILT faculty.
Commencement
At this time, no decision has been made regarding Commencement. Our seniors are foremost in our thoughts as we grapple with this significant challenge. Our faculty and staff have developed meaningful relationships with so many of our seniors. We will celebrate and honor our seniors, one way or another.
Room and Board
We are finalizing details on an adjustment for room and board for the remainder of the semester. Please watch for email communications next week that will outline the plan.
Checking Out from Campus Residence
We understand students will be eager to retrieve their belongings from campus. Please do not come to campus and move your belongings until directed to do so. We must all be vigilant in helping to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, and that includes using caution when students return to campus to move out. The Office of Student Engagement is developing a checkout plan, which will be shared as soon as it is final.
Student Employment
- Students who have been actively employed this semester through federal work study will be paid for the remainder of their federal work study award. This does not apply to those not actively employed this semester or for other forms of student employment; only federal work study.
- If you have questions about your employment status or how this applies to you, please contact email Maria Vanarman or call 269-749-7721.
