The University of Olivet is preparing for a special visit day, welcoming men’s and women’s lacrosse players on Friday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Lacrosse Feature Day is an action-packed day designed to showcase what OC has to offer student-athletes interested in playing college-level lacrosse.
The Lacrosse Feature Day will include a tour of campus – including Cutler Event Center, the premiere training, recovery and competition facility – as well as lunch in the Kirk Center and presentations from admissions representatives. In addition, networking with OC lacrosse coaches and potential future teammates will continue throughout the day.
Head men’s lacrosse coach Matt Holtz said, “The pillars of our program include three things I expect our players to uphold every day – a positive attitude, focus on improvement and having fun. This is the first time we are hosting a Lacrosse Feature Day, and I am very excited to welcome so many students to OC. I’m most looking forward to sharing the team’s goals for growth with these students, and learning more about their goals and how I can help these young players reach them.”
Coach Holtz is beginning his third season at OC, and during the 2017 season helped the Comets advance to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Tournament for the team’s fourth straight season. Overall, OC had a 7-7 record, including a 5-2 mark to tie for second-place in the league standings for the highest finish in school history. During the 2018 season, Coach Holtz is looking forward to building off the team’s past successes for even more improvement.
For the women, head coach Kaitlin Feeney is equally looking forward to Lacrosse Feature Day. “I love meeting with students as much as I enjoy meeting their families. It’s important to make everyone feel comfortable and welcomed at OC, and this event is the perfect opportunity for that. I also think it’s great that these students will be able to begin building relationships with each other, truly creating a strong foundation to build on, which is my focus with the program right now.”
Every player has the chance to earn their spot as a starter on the women’s lacrosse team, giving freshmen immediate opportunities to show their skills and even lead the team. In addition, Coach Feeney is a strong believer that the most beneficial learning happens when you’re having fun, and shapes her practices around this belief. In 2015, she was even named Southeastern Women’s Lacrosse League Coach of the Year while coaching for the University of Central Florida’s club women’s lacrosse team.
The University of Olivet Lacrosse teams are always looking to add new talent to the rosters of dedicated and hardworking Comets. At Lacrosse Feature Day, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about academics, athletics, campus life, financial aid, and more. OC Nation can’t wait to welcome you, so register now! Plus, there are many other opportunities for all students to visit OC this season.
