The University of Olivet Jazz Band will perform Wednesday, April 8 at 7 p.m. at the Olivet Congregational Church, 125 College St., Olivet, Michigan. There is no cost to attend.
The University of Olivet Jazz Band will be performing music incorporating jazz styles throughout the history of jazz, including big band, bebop, Latin, vocal and fusion jazz. The band will feature pieces composed by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, Lee Morgan and Miles Davis. Some of the pieces include “In a Mellow Tone,” “Summertime,” and “All Blues.”
“My goal as a jazz educator is to introduce as many styles of jazz to the students as possible each semester,” said The University of Olivet Jazz Band Director Jon Gewirtz. “This concert will be a very diverse mix of jazz ranging from the 1920s to the 1970s.”
