The University of Olivet presents the exhibition “The Land” by Ed Wong-Ligda and Bill Hosterman. The exhibit will be open Aug. 30 – Sept. 20 with an artists’ reception Sept. 7, 5 – 7 p.m. The display and reception will be held at the Kresge Foundation Art Gallery, located in the Riethmiller Blackman Art Building at The University of Olivet.
Originally from Palo Alto, California, Ed Wong-Ligda has been a Michigan-based painter for over 25 years. In California, he worked as a graphic designer/illustrator and painter. After moving to Michigan, Wong-Ligda transitioned to teaching full time at the Kendall College of Art and Design, where he was also the chair of design studies. He then served as professor and coordinator of illustration at Grand Valley State University until his retirement in 2015. Wong-Ligda currently is a full-time painter concentrating on landscapes. He holds a Master of Fine Arts in painting from the University of Tulsa.
Bill Hosterman works in drawing and printmaking, and has exhibited artwork nationally and internationally. His work investigates the relationship between the way that the natural environment is defined by the human journey, and the manner in which humans are defined by nature. Hosterman is currently an associate professor in the department of art and design at Grand Valley State University. He previously completed residencies with Jentel in Sheridan, Wyoming, and the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Ontonagon. Hosterman holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts with a concentration in printmaking. He also studied printmaking and art in South Africa on a Fulbright Scholarship.
