Two The University of Olivet Echo staff members have received honors in the 2014 Better Collegiate Newspaper contest, offered through the Michigan Press Association.

Editor Mitch Galloway, a junior from Coldwater, and layout editor Jacob Reinsmith, a sophomore from Charlotte, were honored for their work in the Division III newspaper category.

Galloway received third place in column writing for his piece “ESPN losing hall of fame sportswriter.” There were 61 entries in the category this year. Reinsmith earned an honorable mention for his front-page design accompanying the story on Vice President for Administration Larry Colvin’s retirement. “A very creative design highlighting a story which no doubt has great meaning to the students at your campus…well done,” wrote the contest judges.

The University of Olivet Echo has won numerous awards in this annual contest, the last being in 2012. The Echo is a member of the Michigan Collegiate Press Association.
