Dear Students,
The University of Olivet is excited to be returning to “normal” this fall. Returning to a traditional in-person and residential educational experience will provide interactions that we know have a high impact on your ability to learn and be successful here at the College.
The pandemic is fluid, however. It is not over, and it continues to be a health threat to many. The College will continue to educate our campus community on ways to help protect yourself and those around you from COVID-19. In addition, we will work with state and local agencies and make adjustments to our policies and procedures as needed to ensure the health and safety of our entire The University of Olivet family.

Required Student Survey

For contract tracing purposes only, students will be required to complete a short survey prior to their move in indicating whether or not they have been vaccinated.
The College is not requiring the vaccine for students or employees. The information gathered from the survey will only be accessed and used by the College’s authorized contract tracers, should a student be identified as having come in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19. The information will not be shared with faculty or staff or any outside source for any reason.
Steps to Complete the Survey

  1. Log in to the MyOlivet portal. You must be logged in to the MyOlivet portal to complete the survey.
  2. Click on the Student Engagement tab at the top of the page
  3. Next, click on the Residence Life tab on the left-hand side of the page.
  4. At the top right of the Residence Life page you will see “Fall 2021 Return to Campus Student Survey” under “Residence Life Forms.”
  • If you are fully vaccinated, you will be prompted to upload a copy of your vaccination card.
  • If you become fully vaccinated after your move in, please submit your vaccination card by completing the online survey again.
Frequently Asked Questions: Return to Normal – What it Means for Students

Following is information in response to frequently asked questions (FAQ) from students. We encourage you to read the FAQ in its entirety so that you have an understanding of what to expect when you return to campus in August.

If I want to get vaccinated against COVID-19, can I get this vaccination through the College?

  • If you are not vaccinated, we encourage you to do so if possible before you return to campus.
  • The College will provide an opportunity for an on-campus vaccination clinic this year. Please watch for communication from OC CARES announcing a time and date.
  • Olivet Pharmacy, at 116 N. Main St., provides COVID-19 vaccinations by walk-in or appointment.
  • The COVID-19 vaccination is FREE, regardless of where you choose to be vaccinated.

If I need a test for COVID-19, can I get this through the College?

  • Yes, the College will still provide free COVID-19 rapid antigen testing for students who need to be tested.
  • FREE testing is available for any student (vaccinated or unvaccinated) who is experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.

Will I be required to wear a mask or practice social distancing on campus this year?

  • Not at present, but we are still in a global pandemic and an ever-evolving public health crisis.
  • Masking may be required for participation programs, athletics or internships depending on policies in place from outside governing bodies.
  • The College encourages all students, faculty and staff (vaccinated and unvaccinated) to continue educating themselves on best COVID-19 mitigation strategies to protect themselves and others, which may include wearing a mask, practicing social distancing and being vaccinated against the virus.

If I test positive for COVID-19 during the year, what will happen?

  • Report any positive test immediately to campus safety.
  • You will be asked to work with an assigned contact tracer to create a list of close contacts.
  • You will also need to make arrangements to return home or a place off campus to complete your 10-day isolation period.
  • All isolation and quarantine arrangements and any related expenses will be the responsibility of the student.

If I get sick or need to quarantine, what happens with my classes?

  • As is standard practice in cases of documented illness, your absences from class will be considered excused. You will be responsible for contacting your instructors and for making arrangements to complete your work for all of your courses.

Is there an option for remote learning this year?

  • The College is returning to face-to-face classes for all traditional undergraduate programs. Remote learning via Zoom will no longer be generally available to students.
  • Students with long-term medical conditions who have academic concerns should email Joey Shepherd, the academic accommodations coordinator, for further information.

What will my participation look like if I am an athlete or part of a music ensemble?

  • Your coach or program director will advise you on continued COVID-19 mitigation strategies and expectations throughout the year.

If someone on my athletic team or in my class tests positive do I still have to quarantine?

  • A designated campus contact tracer will notify you if you are identified as a potential close contact to an individual who has tested positive.
  • If you have been fully vaccinated and are not exhibiting symptoms consistent with COVID-19 there will be no need to quarantine.
  • If you are not fully vaccinated, you will need to quarantine appropriately. All quarantine arrangements and any related expenses will be the responsibility of the student.

What kind of student activities will be hosted this year? Are there limitations on Greek life? What about other social gatherings and sports events?

  • We will return to traditional student engagement activities, giving students, faculty and staff the ability to interact in ways on and off campus that foster the relationships we value so deeply at The University of Olivet.
  • Service learning trips will once again occur, and where and when we can, international and study abroad trips will resume.
  • Participation programs and athletics will resume operations. Our athletic training department will continue to work with physicians and the NCAA to operate under best practices providing a safe environment for those participating.
  • Adjustments may be made to our policies and procedures as needed based on the pandemic to ensure the health and safety of our entire The University of Olivet family.

Will dining services return to normal?

  • Yes. There are no restrictions for full dining services at this time. In addition to dine-in breakfast, lunch and dinner at the KC, the Meal Exchange will be available in the Starbucks Café in Mott.

Can I choose to live with another student based on my vaccination status?

  • The College will not share vaccination information for the purpose of roommate or residence hall selection.
  • If you have a housing request, such as rooming with a friend or being assigned a single room, please email Joshua Van Wyhe.
