As you are aware if you’ve read today’s previous OC CARES communications from President Corey, we will be transitioning to remote instruction for at least 14 days. This email is to provide you with information to help you make the transition from the classroom to remote learning go as smoothly as possible.
Remote learning for ALL COURSES begins Monday, September 28
- Your online courses will continue as usual.
- Class sessions of your F2F or hybrid courses usually held in a classroom will meet instead at the same time using Zoom.
- You are expected to attend Zoom sessions of your courses using the quick link provided in Blackboard or through the email invitation provided by your professor.
- You do NOT need a Zoom account to join these class meetings – just click the link provided.
- Although using a computer is better, you can join a Zoom meeting using a cell phone.
- For directions on how to access Zoom classes, follow this link.
- Your professor will be in touch with you with details on how your particular course will function remotely.
- Check your Olivet email and Blackboard announcements regularly and frequently for updates from your professors.
Check your technology and internet connection!
- Log into Blackboard to stay updated regarding your courses. If a professor has included a Zoom classroom link on Blackboard, make sure you can “enter” the Zoom classroom (see link above for directions).
- If you plan to use a cell phone for Zoom classes, download the Zoom app now to be prepared for classes on Monday.
- The ITS team can provide help with technology questions. ITS can be reached at itshelp@uolivet.edu or by phone at 269-749-7666 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
- If you determine that you do not have the technology to confidently and regularly participate in remote classes from your living quarters, you may use the computer labs located in the following areas:
- Burrage Library
- Roznowski Learning Commons
- Mott 307
- MacKay Lab
- Students in Dole, Blair, and Shipherd may also use computer labs in their assigned dorm.
We will all be working together during this period to keep everyone connected and successful. You are encouraged to reach out to your professor or academic advisor if you have any questions or concerns about a class, expectations or other academic concern.
Upcoming important OC CARES communications to watch for this evening include the following:
- Modified Student and Residential Life Expectations (Dr. Amy Radford-Popp, dean of student engagement)
- Modified Meal Service and Mail Service (Dr. Amy Radford-Popp, dean of student engagement)
We recognize that this is an unexpected and stressful time for everyone. Please be kind, flexible, patient and responsible. We’ve got this!
Sincerely,
Karen Chaney, Ph.D.
Dean of Faculty
