Four students from The University of Olivet’s Health and Human Performance (HHP) Department were recently published by Nasco, a company dedicated to fulfilling classroom needs for K-12 physical education programs.

The students worked with Nasco to design educational games for elementary and high school classes; the company then included the games in its PE Works publication, which is distributed to health educators across the country.

The University of Olivet seniors Hailey Bond, Troy Pickard, Taylor Pringle, and Jimmy Schoof designed the games, which were presented at the Society of Health and Physical Educators (SHAPE) Florida Convention, and will be presented at the SHAPE Michigan Convention in November.

Olivet’s health and human performance students began working with Nasco last year after the company donated classroom equipment for the college’s future PE teachers. KayDee Perry, assistant professor of health and human performance, said the partnership has allowed The University of Olivet students to “dig into their field of interest.” Local schools have “reached out to the program to perform teaching demos using the donated equipment, which gives The University of Olivet students hands-on experience,” she said.

In addition to designing games with Nasco, Perry said, “Students get to lead sessions, demonstrate their work, and have their published work distributed to professionals in the field.”
