Students in the process of moving in to their dorms at UO

Move-In Day is August 14 for UOlivet first-time residential students – and we can’t wait to welcome you! The day is more than just unloading boxes—it’s the start of an unforgettable four-year adventure. Get ready to kick off a new chapter with new friends, a new home and a whole lot of campus spirit. The entire UOlivet community is rolling out the red carpet (or should we say green lawn?) to welcome you “home.”

“It is our joy to welcome new students to campus,” said Stephen Critchlow, lead first-year success navigator at UOlivet. “We look forward to getting to know you personally and guiding you through the exciting Welcome Week process. This is just the beginning of the journey, and we’re here to support and celebrate you every step of the way!”

Here’s a snapshot of Move-In Day Events:

8 a.m. – 12 p.m.: Check-In and Move-In

Start your day by heading to your residence hall for check-in. Once you’re all checked in, it’s time to haul those bags and boxes into your new digs. Don’t worry—our awesome team of volunteers (including President Steven M. Corey!) will be there to lend a hand, carry boxes, point you in the right direction and keep the good vibes flowing. From friendly faculty and staff to alumni and fellow students, everyone’s here to make your move a breeze!

Head over to the Olivet Congregational Church for the heartwarming Transition Ceremony. Here, you’ll hear inspiring words from President Corey, along with stories and advice from our amazing staff and students. The highlight? Next up, it’s off to Mott Auditorium to get the lowdown on your class schedule and what to expect from your Comet Experience, ensuring you’re all set for your academic journey.

4:30 – 6 p.m.: Finish Settling In

Use this time to get your tech gear set up, explore campus, connect with your RA, or maybe even take a quick shopping trip to Walmart or Meijer in Charlotte for any last-minute essentials. It’s the perfect opportunity to personalize your space and start making it feel like home.

5 – 7 p.m.: Dinner at the KC

After a busy day, head to the KC for dinner. Whether you’re craving comfort food or are ready to be adventurous, there’s something to satisfy every palate.

8 p.m.: S’mores at the Cutler Student Center

Cap off the day with a sweet treat! Join us at Cutler Student Center for a s’mores-making extravaganza. It’s the perfect way to wind down and make new friends around the campfire.

Don’t forget to visit the Spirit Store in Cutler Student Center to stock up on all of your Comet gear! Saturday and Sunday hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Comet Experience: New Student Orientation

The excitement continues with new student orientation on Thursday, August 15, and Friday, August 16. Over these two days, you’ll jump into your Comet Experience classes led by your first-year success navigators!

From making connections to mastering campus tools, these days are packed with everything you need to kickstart your journey at UOlivet.

  • Engage in fun get-to-know-you exercises designed to help you bond with your new classmates.
  • Learn about our campus technology, including the portal and app, to make your college life a breeze.
  • Schedule a meeting with your navigators to ensure you’re on the right path.

Additionally, students are required to attend two additional workshop sessions tailored to their interests and schedules. Don’t worry, if you’re an athlete, your coaches know where you’ll bee – there’s no conflict with your Comet Experience or athletic commitments.
