The University of Olivet has once again been recognized for its commitment to those who have served. For the 2026–2027 academic year, Olivet earned a Top 10 Military Friendly® School designation, along with recognition as a Military Spouse Friendly® School.

Out of more than 3,200 participating institutions and organizations, this distinction places Olivet among the nation’s top colleges supporting veterans, active-duty service members and their families.

What It Means to Be a Military Friendly® School

The Military Friendly® designation is awarded based on a combination of public data, institutional survey responses and measurable student outcomes.

Institutions are evaluated on factors including:

  • Student recruitment and enrollment
  • Retention and graduation rates
  • Academic progress
  • Career placement
  • Support services for military-connected students

This comprehensive approach ensures that recognized schools aren’t just making promises—they’re delivering real results.

A Commitment to Student Veterans and Their Families

“This honor speaks to the meaningful support systems we’ve built for student veterans and their families,” said Leslie Sullivan, Olivet registrar and VA certifying official. “From navigating benefits to earning a degree, we’re focused on ensuring every military-connected student has the guidance and resources needed to succeed.”

At Olivet, that commitment is reflected in both financial support and personalized services designed to remove barriers and create opportunity.

Financial Support for Military-Connected Students

One of the most impactful resources available is the Veterans’ Advocate Scholarship, which covers 50% of tuition for eligible students.

This scholarship is available to:

  • Veterans
  • Active-duty service members
  • National Guard members
  • Reservists eligible for VA education benefits
  • Spouses and legal dependents using VA benefits

Combined with GI Bill® benefits and other military education assistance programs, Olivet works to make a college degree more affordable and accessible.

Dedicated Support Services That Make a Difference

Beyond financial aid, Olivet provides personalized, hands-on support to help military-connected students succeed from day one through graduation.

Key resources include:

  • One-on-one support through the Registrar’s Office and VA certifying official
  • Assistance navigating GI Bill® benefits and tuition assistance
  • A strong student voice through the Veterans Advocate Group
  • Flexible degree programs designed for working adults and nontraditional students
  • A welcoming campus community grounded in service, leadership and character

These services are designed with real-life needs in mind—whether students are transitioning from military service, balancing family responsibilities or advancing their careers.

Why Military-Friendly Colleges Matter

Choosing a military-friendly college can make a significant difference in a student’s experience and long-term success. Institutions like Olivet understand the unique challenges military-connected students face, and actively work to support them.

Methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by Military Friendly®, in consultation with the Military Friendly® Advisory Council, a group of independent leaders in the military community. Final ratings were determined by combining an organization’s survey score, public data, and an assessment of the institution’s ability to meet and exceed thresholds for student recruitment, retention, academic progress, graduation rates, career placement, and support services for veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses.
