Elizabeth Fisher had close ties to The University of Olivet before she even became a student, growing up in the Charlotte and Olivet communities. In addition, Elizabeth was a part of the OC high school Insurance Academy. Now a junior, Elizabeth is proud of her accomplishments and pleased to still be a member of the OC family.
“I dual enrolled in high school with the Insurance Academy through The University of Olivet, so I was already able to understand the way Olivet instructed me and was able to work with the school to get my degree started while still in high school,” Elizabeth said. “I knew I wanted to go into insurance out of high school, and Olivet has the best insurance program in any surrounding areas. When I visited Olivet before graduating, I felt very welcomed by the insurance professors and advisers.”
Elizabeth’s ultimate goal is to become an underwriter, and she recently interned with the Auto-Owner’s Insurance personal lines underwriting department to gain real-world experience and build industry connections. In addition, she’s also had great experiences through her on-campus involvement.
“I am the vice president recruiting officer of Gamma Iota Sigma, OC’s professional insurance fraternity, so I go around to many different high schools in the area and give a brief presentation of Olivet and the insurance industry. Through Gamma, I am able to attend many events put on by the organization,” Elizabeth said. “I have even been able to attend the national Gamma conference in Dallas, Texas, as well a day trip to Chicago.”
The relationships Elizabeth has built with her professors and mentors have also been very impactful on her growth and development.
“The relationships I have created with my professors are one of my favorite things about The University of Olivet,” she said. “Each staff member genuinely cares about you and wants you to do the best you can in each class. Many of my professors have helped me obtain scholarships and jobs, or just shared regular advice through my school year.”
Now, these positive experiences are what drives Elizabeth to recruit other students to OC and the insurance and risk management program.
“Olivet is a very personable school. Unlike large universities, many classrooms are small enough so you can get to know each of your professors individually and form a relationship with them,” Elizabeth said. “Although OC is a small campus, there are many things to do for any type of person, whether it be sports, clubs or organizations around campus.”
