Junior Byron Pearce has a strong interest in weight-lifting and helping others. As a fitness management major, he hopes to combine these two passions to a successful career in the sports and fitness industry.

“I was born and raised in Lansing, and I chose Olivet because it was a smaller school closer to home,” Byron said. “I knew I would benefit from the one-on-one opportunities with professors in small classes. The Lansing Promise helped me attend Olivet, and I also earned a scholarship from my high school for my dedication to athletics.”

Byron is a member of the track and field team, and he loves his team because it allows him to be a part of something bigger than himself. As a student-athlete, Byron has also had a great opportunity to build his teamwork and time management skills, as well as close relationships with his coaches and other mentors.

“My track coaches really keep me going because of the family-like environment they introduced to me,” Byron said. “My experience at Olivet has really changed me for the better. It has made me learn time management and proper planning skills and respect the hard work it takes to be here. The environment has molded me to a better student and a better person. I’ve also had the opportunity to be a part of a sports team again, which helped me value everything much more since you never know when it could be gone.”
