In August 2017, a refresh of the The University of Olivet Athletics identity began. The goal was to create a cohesive brand identity that speaks to school spirit and connects with today’s athletes, students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends. It began with a new athletic logo and typography. A transformation of Clyde and the creation of a female mascot were also announced.

“It’s been nearly seven months in the making, and today we are excited to reveal the bold, modern Clyde and introduce the female mascot,” said President Steven M. Corey, Ph.D. “The path to this point has taken all facets of the college community into consideration, and the result is an outstanding representation of the The University of Olivet Comets.”

She is Woman, Hear Her Roar

For the first time ever, a female mascot will represent The University of Olivet. There was no question that she’d be bold, fast, tenacious, resilient, and empowering; after all, she’s a leader. Naming her, however, wasn’t easy.

This winter, students, alumni, faculty and staff members all contributed to her persona, including suggesting a number of names that best reflect the spirit of OC. Narrowed down from 15 to two, the college community voted between Haley and Olive.

While both names received their fair share of support, Haley finished as the clear favorite. The name is a nod to the other famous and true Halley’s Comet. She represents strong will and electric energy, taking the world by storm whenever she appears. Haley’s energetic and welcoming personality is contagious to all who cheer on the Red and White.

From Mild-Mannered to Powerhouse

Clyde hasn’t gone anywhere. He’s just spent some time at the gym and has transformed from a mild-mannered sidekick to a powerful athletic competitor. Today, Clyde embodies The University of Olivet school spirit, success and commitment to excellence.

Fierce Competitors

Both Haley and Clyde boast OC red and a powerful build, proving they are ready to jump into action on the field or court at any time. Their hair represents the icy, blue streak comets leave behind as they shoot across the sky, embodying energy, speed and forward motion. Even their facial features express how gritty, gutsy and canny these Comets are!

“Clyde and Haley represent what it truly means to be a Comet,” said Ryan Shockey, athletic director. “Comets pursue excellence in everything they do on the athletic field, in the classroom and in life with spirit, passion and heart. The University of Olivet student-athletes will have every reason to be proud when represented by Clyde and Haley.”

Haley and Clyde will make their first appearance this fall. Details and updates will be announced in the coming months.
