Marilyn F. Lawrence, MSN, BSN, RN, was named the director of the RN-BSN Program at The University of Olivet. The RN-BSN Program serves professional nurses returning to college to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. As director of the RN-BSN Program, Lawrence’s responsibilities will include providing leadership and oversite of the program, teaching online classes, and building strategic community partnerships to ensure the continuous success of the program and graduates.

“After serving as an adjunct instructor, I am pleased to take on a leadership role as the director of the RN-BSN Program at The University of Olivet,” Lawrence said. “My passion is mentoring and facilitating student success, which is supported by collaboration with community leaders, building partnerships, and developing critical thinking skills to help students identify clinical interest areas through service learning. As a nursing instructor, I am honored to help educate the next generation of nurses, who see the whole person in the community.”

Prior to taking on the director role, Lawrence served as an adjunct instructor with the The University of Olivet RN-BSN Program for three years. She has worked in classroom and clinical instruction at several colleges and universities since 2009. Some of Lawrence’s teaching interests include community health nursing, nursing trends and issues, youth development, faith-based health care and more. She is a licensed Registered Nurse and holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus on community/population health and a certificate in nursing education. Lawrence is also currently pursuing a Doctor of Nursing Practice with a focus on strategic leadership.

“We are pleased to welcome Marilyn to the director role after her years of service as an instructor in the RN-BSN Program,” said Maria G. Davis, Ph.D. “Her passion for the field of nursing education and professional experience in health care will be a great benefit to the College and our students.”

The University of Olivet’s RN-BSN Program offers professional nurses a convenient pathway to earn their bachelor’s degree. Students in the program have completed their clinical nursing courses within an associate degree program and have earned their RN licensure prior to matriculating at The University of Olivet. The program is delivered online by faculty members who are experienced nurses, allowing students to balance their work, family and education needs. Mentorship opportunities and service learning projects are included with the program, and many scholarships are available to new students. The University of Olivet RN-BSN Program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and approved by the Higher Learning Commission.

The RN-BSN Program aims to increase the number of bachelor-level nursing graduates and help create a stronger nursing workforce across the region by partnering with community colleges to provide accessible educational opportunities. Currently, The University of Olivet offers pathways to graduates of Kellogg Community College, Henry Ford Community College and Oakland Community College, and the list will soon include more colleges in the Midwest.
