The 24th annual Lansing Juneteenth Celebration continues this week, and The University of Olivet is proud and excited to be part of the festivities.
This afternoon, the Lansing City Hall Kick-Off Program & Reception begins at 4:30 p.m. and will include special recognitions, refreshments and entertainment by talented performers and presenters. Michigan legislative members, Lansing public officials and area community leaders will be in attendance. The University of Olivet Vice President and Dean of Student Life Linda Logan, Ph.D., will deliver the welcome. Everyone is invited to attend.
The celebration continues with the Freedom Festival on Friday, June 16 at St. Joseph Park, opening at 3 p.m. Entertainment will start at 5 p.m. and a commemorative ballgame with special tribute to the Negro League will follow at 6:19 p.m. After the game, there will be more musical performances. Be sure to stop by and say hello to The University of Olivet admissions representative, Jamilia Johnson, and The University of Olivet Gospel Choir Director La’Rae Trice, And if you’re interested in an OC Gospel Choir Talent Scholarship, La’Rae will be conducting on site auditions!
Saturday kicks off at 10 a.m. with the African-American Parade, starting at Letts Community Center. Watch for The University of Olivet in the lineup! The Peace Walk and performances will follow at 12 p.m. and continue throughout the afternoon. And the Freedom Festival at St. Joseph Park will be in full swing all day and evening. Events at St. Joseph Park also include food and merchant vendors, children’s activities, a health fair and educational exhibits.

The Lansing Juneteenth Celebration is a project of Progressive Empowerment Education Resource Services (PEERS) 501(c)(3), headquartered at Mask Memorial Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. Dean Linda Logan, Ph.D., serves on the PEERS board.
