Junior Kiley Schneck has grown as an athlete, increased her leadership skills and compiled a successful resume while at The University of Olivet, but the personal growth she’s experienced stands out the most. Next up? She plans to apply her skills and experiences to a career in physical therapy.
“The University of Olivet has taught me to follow my dreams,” Kiley said. “Prior to becoming a Comet, I didn’t think I would have the strength or courage to reach out to physical therapists for potential internships or job shadows. Currently, I have 20 hours of observation hours from numerous PT clinics as I enter my junior year. The knowledgeable and supportive professors here at The University of Olivet have instilled an unbelievable amount of confidence not only in myself but my peers as well. I’ve been proud to be a Comet from the moment I stepped on campus, and I’m excited to be a part of the Comet family forever.”
Many of Kiley’s most impactful experiences have stemmed from her involvement in extracurricular activities. She’s a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa, an honor society for students in the Health and Human Performance Department, the Love Your Melon Campus Crew dedicated to raising awareness about pediatric cancer and the Student Athletic Advisory Committee. In addition, Kiley is a passionate soccer player.
“I’ve been a part of the women’s soccer team since the fall of 2018, and I’ve loved every moment of it,” Kiley exclaimed. “Prior to the fall of 2019, I predominantly played in the back line; however, during my sophomore season, my coaches saw something more in me and decided to put me in a new position. At first it was a difficult transition for me mentally and physically, but as the season continued, I learned the position with the help of the supportive coaching staff. The soccer coaches have always been very supportive and flexible with me, along with my other teammates. Collectively, the soccer program has been a source of support for me on and off the field. The players who make up the team have become some of my best friends.”
And, Kiley’s close relationships with her coaches and teammates transfer into close relationships with her professors in the classroom. “The professors in the Health and Human Performance Department are second to none. Each and every one of them are supportive and are willing to help you succeed in any way possible,” she said.
Now Kiley is proud to share her college experience to help other students make their college decision.
“High school students shouldn’t be afraid to attend a small college,” Kiley said. “Many of my high school friends attended larger schools, and after talking with a few of them, I’ve found that attending a smaller school has allowed me to create closer relationships with my professors and peers. The University of Olivet has provided me with numerous career opportunities while allowing me to excel in the classroom.”
