The University of Olivet is searching for the next generation of artists! The visual arts program is always looking to add new talent to the already-extraordinary group of painters, sculptors, drawers, printmakers, graphic designers, ceramicists and other Comet artists. This year, OC is hosting the inaugural The University of Olivet Regional High School Student Art Exhibition in order to do just that.
High school students from across the state entered 2D, 3D, ceramics and graphic design artwork to compete for talent-based scholarships up to $3,000. The opening reception and awards ceremony will be held on Friday, Dec. 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Kresge Foundation Art Gallery inside the Riethmiller Blackman Art Building. In addition, entries will be on display in the gallery from Dec. 15 – 22.
“As an instructor at The University of Olivet, I am excited to facilitate this outreach into our region and to show the creativity that many students show with their artwork,” Don VanAuken, adjunct instructor of art, said. “I also want to begin a dialogue with students, educators and parents on how the Arts Department at The University of Olivet can assist in the artistic and cultural vitality of our region and to show how the visual arts can be a viable career choice for students.”
During the reception, there will also be an Art Teacher Recognition Award presented by the The University of Olivet art faculty to recognize the hard work of educators in preparing the next generation of artists.
