The University of Olivet visual arts program is proud to present the fourth annual The University of Olivet Area High School Art Exhibition. This year, the event will be presented virtually, featuring a video and webpage highlighting student submissions. The goal of the exhibition is to support and celebrate area students’ creative work and promote the arts in the greater The University of Olivet community.
High school juniors and seniors from across the state may enter 2D, 3D, ceramics and graphic design artwork through digital submission to compete for The University of Olivet talent-based scholarships up to $3,000. Digital submissions will be accepted from Nov. 9-20 via email to Don VanAuken, adjunct instructor of art, at dvanauken@uolivet.edu.
Students, parents or teachers are welcome to submit artwork. Artwork should be submitted with the students’ name, grade, high school, contact information and the medium used to create work. Artwork may be submitted anonymously by request. Submissions should be sized around 1200 pixels/2MB, in JPEG format and PC and Mac compatible. Students may submit up to three works, and there is no cost to enter.
A virtual award reception will be held on Friday, Dec. 11. Students whose work is selected for the exhibition will be notified of reception details.
“As an instructor at The University of Olivet, I am excited to facilitate this outreach into our region and to show the creativity of many students through their artwork,” said Professor VanAuken. “As we all know, this school year has brought with it many challenges, but by moving this year’s exhibition to an online format we can still celebrate and support the next generation of young creative minds. We want to begin a dialogue with students, educators and parents on how the Arts Department at The University of Olivet can assist in the artistic and cultural vitality of our region and to show how the visual arts can be a viable career choice for students.”
