Tiffany Brumbaugh ’12 serves as the administrative assistant for admissions at The University of Olivet. Tiffany began her own college journey at a large, public university before transferring to OC with the goal of earning a relationship-based education. Now, Tiffany is pleased to use her background and skills to help today’s students realize their potential at Olivet.
What brought you to The University of Olivet, and why do you love OC?
As a student, OC drew me in with the small class sizes and relationships with professors. At the first university I attended, I was sitting in an auditorium of over 200 students and had no face time with professors. I visited Olivet while home one summer and fell in love with the campus and people. When I obtained the staff position here, I was very excited to be working with such an energized team, it felt like coming home. Faculty and staff on campus are some of the friendliest and most welcoming people I have ever worked with, which is what keeps my love for OC running strong.
What is your favorite memory from your time at OC?
One of my favorite memories is graduation day. Not because my time here was at a close, but because of my experience waiting in line to walk across the stage. We were arranged in alphabetical order, and I was between two people I had never talked to during my time here. We shared stories about our time at OC, and we learned that we all had different experiences, but one thing in common. We each had the most enjoyable and fulfilling time at OC. Being able to even talk openly with people I had never met displayed again that OC really is different. The people here are genuine.
Where does your passion for working in admissions stem from?
My passion for working with the admissions team comes from the desire to see other students be able to have this wonderful life experience. Not only is OC at the top on the academic side, it also has an amazing culture of putting students first. Student-professor relationships, many activities on campus and the new Student Center coming to campus are just some of the draws to this campus. I am also thrilled to be working with such a hardworking and supportive team in the Office of Admissions. Everyone is extremely passionate about helping students transition to OC and college life in general.
What’s the average day in your role, or some of the unique things you are responsible for?
I’m not sure if there is an average day in my role — it depends on the season that we are in here in the office. My main responsibilities are inputting transcripts and other data into our system, budgeting for the department, ordering supplies and helping with projects in our office and across campus.
Why do you encourage students to attend OC?
There are a lot of reasons students should attend OC, but some of the top reasons are that here you are never a number. Professors will remember you and your name even years after you graduate. There are things you have the opportunity to do at OC that you might not be able to do at other colleges. For example, if you want to create a club or group at OC, you are welcomed to do so. Staff will help you every step of the way to achieve the college experience you are looking for.
What is an interesting or little-known fact about yourself?
I’m a professional cellist and a huge comic book fan.
