Andrew Kreichelt is the business operations manager for the Athletics Department. Prior to joining OC, Andrew served as a high school track coach and realized he wanted athletics to be a part of his professional journey permanently. In 2017, he earned his master’s degree in sports administration from Wayne State University and got a glimpse of working in college athletics. Now combining his passion for athletics and his education, Andrew says his role at The University of Olivet allows him to do something he loves while helping today’s students discover opportunities as athletes.
Why do you love The University of Olivet?
Part of what brought me to The University of Olivet was the family like atmosphere I experienced when I came in for my interview. Olivet is a smaller school so I have gotten to know a lot of people around campus and everyone has been so warm and welcoming. In my short time here, I already feel like I have been a long time member of the OC family.
Where does your passion for working in athletics stem from?
I was a multi-sport athlete growing up, so athletics were always present in my life. I ran track and played soccer through high school, and then ran track in college. While a college student, I got to experience a little bit of the administration side of college athletics which helped me develop my passion for it. That passion for athletics grew after college when I became a track coach and got to experience another side of athletics. So based on my experiences and where my passion was, college athletics seemed like the right place for me. Every experience I have had since then has just confirmed I made the right choice.
What’s the average day in your role, or some of the unique things you are responsible for?
Like most people in division III college athletics, my role changes depending on the day and what events we have going on. My main duties that do not change are day-to-day business operations of the department, working with the athletic director on the budget management processes, managing external vendor arrangements and tracking athletic inventory.
Why do you encourage students to attend OC?
The University of Olivet is a very unique school that caters to many different types of students. From the arts, to athletics, to academics, The University of Olivet has a lot to offer to anyone looking to join the OC family.
What do you look forward to in your role?
Since I started in January, I missed everything that happens at Olivet in the fall. I am really looking forward to experiencing all the activities and sports that will be going on this fall, including football and soccer games, new student Move-In Day, and all the other fun activities that are planned around campus.
What advice do you share with students?
College is a unique time in your lives, so do not take it for granted. Enjoy your time at The University of Olivet and make lasting memories and lifelong friendships.
What is an interesting or little known fact about yourself?
I love the outdoors. My wife and I are avid outdoorsmen, and we love to camp, hike and backpack through the mountains for days at a time.
