Meet Kyle Zeuch, D.M.A., OC’s new choir director. In his role, Professor Zeuch leads the concert-style college choir, consisting of a class and performances. While he enjoys helping students enhance their singing abilities, Professor Zeuch emphasizes that singing can help make the world a brighter and more positive place.
WHY DO YOU WORK AT OC?
The first time I came to campus I could feel the “family” atmosphere. I received smiles and genuine conversations with those whom I came in contact.
WHAT’S THE BEST PART OF YOUR JOB?
Interacting with students! What I do as a choral conductor isn’t really to make music. I try to help people become the best version of themselves; music is just my tool.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE STUDENTS?
Work hard at face-to-face interaction. Regardless of what you do in life, building genuine relationships remains incredibly important in our daily lives.
Strive to make a difference. Before we can do good, we have to understand how to do good. We must approach those in our lives with an open mind to attempt to understand their perspective in life. In choir, we will explore music of different cultures and time periods, allowing us to learn and not just tolerate our differences, but to fully accept and embrace them. With this understanding, we can begin to make a difference in our world. I believe that the more people in this world that are singing, the better place this world will become.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS ACADEMIC YEAR?
I am looking forward to inviting the Yale Wiffenpoofs to campus for our Fall Choir Concert on Sunday, Oct. 15. The ensemble has a rich history of a capella singing, and I can’t wait for the Olivet Choir students and the entire community to experience it!
