Meet Jared Stratz, the assistant director of admissions at OC. Jared works with prospective and new students on a daily basis, focusing on providing a warm welcome to families. He is also the mastermind behind New Student Orientation, and works year round to ensure the transition from high school to college student is as smooth as possible for new Comets.
Why do you work at OC?
I have worked in the Office of Admissions for just over three years. My favorite part of The University of Olivet is that we are a family – this is definitely a “home away from home” for all those living in this community. We all work together to make the student experience exceptional, and that is our daily mission.
What’s the best part of your job?
The most important responsibility I have in Admissions is to build relationships with students and their families. These relationship-building opportunities help to bring new students to Olivet, and I want to help show new students all the great advantages of becoming a Comet.
What advice would you give students?
Don’t be afraid to take chances and try new things! College is about putting yourself out there, making new friends, getting involved in new clubs and activities, etc. Therefore, the sky is the limit for those who continue challenging themselves to explore everything The University of Olivet has to offer!
If you want a college that is small, friendly and all about the relationship building – The University of Olivet is for you! The opportunities here are endless!
What are you looking forward to this academic year?
I am excited for our Homecoming and our upcoming Comet Day visit events. These are great days to meet students, staff and faculty – and learn about all the opportunities that exist for new recruits on campus.
More about Jared:
• He is a lover of all things science, but especially environmental geology, which is what he majored in.
• Before coming to Olivet, Jared was a curator of a rock and mineral museum in Grand Rapids.
• He has a personal collection of over 300 rare Earth specimens.
